A person who I will not name here at the moment made a compaint, not to me, the operator of this site, not to Quartz, the hosting company who provides the services to put this site on the web, but to the registrar of the hosting company which is used to publish this site. This, by itself, suggests the the writer is not making a serious request. The request also came from an otherwise unidentified Yahoo email ID. In any case, I have made the following response:

Dear Sir:

I am the person solely and wholly responsible for the operation of the
domain extinct-marsupial.net. I have received word that you have complained
to the registrar for my hosting provider that I am harassing and defaming
you. I find it extremely odd that you have made no effort at all to contact
me directly.

You claim that this site defames and harasses you. I maintain that it
exposes the activities of someone who appears to have a name somewhat
similar to the one you claim is your own; neither that name nor yours,
however, appear anywhere on the web site.

You claim to be a "C********** H*****", which again appears nowhere on the
web page about which you complain. You'll need to be more specific about the
issues you have.

Further, since you are posting from a Yahoo email address, there is no way
for us to verify that you are indeed "C********** H*****" or anyone who
would have any standing at all in objecting to this web site, even if
grounds for objection existed.

In order to establish your standing, please supply us with a notarized copy
of a current driver's license or passport to establish that you are who you
claim to be, as well as a signed and notarized statement that it is your
position that this web site refers directly and specifically to you. Without
these, I will not feel obligated to make any further communication to you on
this topic.

For your information, the web site about which you complain neither harasses
nor defames anyone. It is an act of _journalism_, protected by the First
Amendment. It exposes long-term and ongoing abuse of the Internet for
_actual_ harassment, defamation, stalking, copyright infringement, and other
illegal and unsavory activities, all by a single individual, perhaps with a
small group of followers.

This description is supported by the numerous pieces of evidence that I
cite, based directly on publicly available records and information on
publicly accessible search engines. Anyone can get onto Google Groups or the
Internet Archive and verify that the information I present is accurate. If
you feel this information somehow refers to you and is inaccurate, take it
up with the dozens of people who posted it over a period of close to a
decade, not with me.

What I present is evidence, not a fiction I have manufactured; I'm only
collecting the body of it into a single location for easy reference by any
and all interested parties. I take the position that the facts are the
facts, and that the truth is an absolute defense against claims of
defamation.

If you feel that this information somehow pertains or refers to you, feel
free to specify how, and in what way it's inaccurate. I'll investigate and
post my results and my assessment of your objections. Beyond that, you have
a few alternatives:

• If you feel that I'm doing something illegal, make a report to the police.
• If you feel that you are being defamed by me, or doing something otherwise
civilly actionable, feel free to engage a lawyer and bring suit against me.
• If you choose not to pursue either of these courses, you can always
register an Internet domain of your choice and put up your own web site to
attempt to address or refute my claims.

In any case, cease and desist annoying my hosting service and their
registrar with your unfounded and unsupported complaints immediately. As you
have been advised, you are verging on tortious interference with commerce.
There is nothing anywhere in the registrar's Terms of Service which prohibit
the reporting of fact supported by documentation.
